Team Discover Brahmapur had an exclusive interview with Mr. Siddharth Shankar Swain, I.A.S., Sub Collector, Brahmapur, Ganjam. On completing one year of his service, he gladly shared his experiences and his plans for making Brahmapur even better.
His efforts to control traffic disturbances, curbing excessive usage of polythene and building up of the Senior Citizen Welfare Committee received positive responses from youth and senior citizens alike. He also has a huge contribution in setting up the ‘Wall of Kindness’, which aims to provide used clothes to the poor (a special counter is right in front of his office).
“I want to clear it out that I’m a public servant, we work for the public and we are paid for it. So we are not doing charity, we are doing our jobs. So there is nothing like I’m a hero or likewise.”
When asked about his past accomplishments, he humbly said that he doesn’t believe in self-appraisal and that there was no use discussing what he has accomplished. He further added that major changes are yet to happen and that he has lots of expectations out of himself, to accomplish for the betterment of the city. Bravery is in facing and dealing with reality, not running away from it, he believes.
He gladly stated that he is looking forward to more fruitful collaborations with the crowd of Brahmapur in his future ventures like an improvement of agricultural activities and cleanliness in rural areas.
“Brahmapur feels like Home.”
